The new Matchbox City 5-pack is out, including the Mazda 2 and revamped Crown Vic Taxi...

A heads up on another Matchbox 5-pack that should interest a few of you...

On the heels of the fantastic NYPD 5-pack comes the new City 5-pack.  The first photo of the pack just surfaced, and you can see it below.  There are a handful of models that don't catch my attention, but the Mazda 2 and Ford Crown Vic definitely do.  The Crown Vic has a modified Taxi sign to comply with the 4-piece rule, and the Mazda makes a welcome return.

The bottom model is also interesting.  I cannot remember the name of the casting, but the vintage Mattel deco is pretty damn cool.  More to come once I can find a set in stores...

  1. Why not use the Beast instead of that generic limo?

    1. Exactly. What's with all the reuse of old Hero City castings that have not been released in years, yet old castings that were good, i.e. Mack MR and Grumman LLV not getting used, and if they are (in the case of the LLV) not without modification.

    2. Yeah I wonder if the Beast would fit. I am not that fond of the limo casting either. Maybe another taxi or utility vehicle in its place.

  2. I think it's called "Billboard Truck". If it weren't for that deco on it, I'd pass on it completely. It and the GMC bus are the only things that I'm attracted to. The others are all loudly tampoed.

  3. I think The Beast should be used also, instead of that make-believe limo especially since it seems so 'toy' like.
But my question is this.. will it fit in the 5 pack?
Also, I would have enjoyed seeing the Grumman LLV mail truck in original USPS livery.

    1. I understand your feelings about the Grumman LLV, Matchbox did use it last year in another 5-pack with a few body modifications. Licensing issues I believe. As far as the USPS livery, that may be a problem since the USPS is not too fond of licensing legacy models that are no longer in service or is being phased out of service.

  5. I'm pleased to see a billboard truck in the line up. Shame they decided to use the Mattel logo on the billboard rather than the Matchbox logo as the support Mattel has given to the Matchbox brand over recent years hasn't been great!

  6. That orange car is a Mazda which has a nice touch of orange, the Crown Vic has a fairly nice touch of blue and in my opinion the generic limo has an interesting touch of burgundy ( Did I get the color's name correctly?)Right the limo is generic but if you think about it it's American like in design which is why I admire it,in fact, it reminds me of a Cadillac.Either I can purchase this package on eBay (if they're ever sold on eBay)or purchase them locally but however I may have to wait by October or November since here in Canada we don't receive certain products early enough like consumers do in the States.

  7. Even though Mattel is the parent company of Matchbox I still regard it as odd that that truck in the package bears the Mattel name and logo all because it reminds so much much of Mattel's other subsidiary which many know is Hot Wheels.
